Open Arms Spiritual Haven
Open Arms Spiritual Haven is a modern spiritualist centre based in the heart of Grays. When we started Open Arms Haven, we wanted our work to touch the local community both in terms of providing a spiritual and welcoming place where people could visit to learn and gain comfort, but also in terms of providing practical help where it was needed in our local area.
At Open Arms we bellieve that our work with Spirit was given as a gift, and therefore should be given back as a gift. To this end, we do not make any money whatsoever from our centre, and Open Arms Spiritual Haven is completely non-profit making. Each week, once our hall and medium are paid for, and any minor costs (refreshments etc) are covered, all remaining money raised from the evening is put aside to be donated on a quarterly basis for charity.
Open Arms is proud to announce our support for our chosen charity, Thurrock MIND. Based in Grays, Thurrock MIND is affiliated to the National organisation that provides support to people experiencing emotional and mental distress in our community. However, they are responsible for all their own fundraising, which is why we are happy to make them our chosen charity.
Many of us have been, or know someone who has been, touched by mental health issues, and we at Open Arms feel that this is a very worthwhile organisation, and hope you will support us in raising as much money as possible for them each quarter.
The facilities provided by Thurrock Mind include : a Drop-In, Befriending Scheme, Work Training/E
xperience Project, Counselling and Groupwork. They also provide information and advice, and Crisis Advocacy for people in hospitals and other care environments.

Our first donation will be made at our evening on the 24th August, and we would be delighted to have your support !
However, things were not always so simple with regard to our donations. We had originally planned to donate to Little Haven Childrens Hospice. However, when we contacted them, they advised us that they were unable to accept money from mediumship, as they are a Christian organisation, and consider us to be "dark".
Despite the fact that many of us are Christians, they said that the Bible teaches against communicating with the dead. However they would accept our money in Jay's personal name. She refused this offer, as she is proud of the work the Haven does, and of the wonderful people who have helped to raise the money - it also seemed a little hypocritical as she is also a medium!
Therefore we are unable to support this organisation as planned - we hope you understand. At least now our money is going where it will make a real difference !
We would welcome your support on the 24th of August, when our medium will be Sue Bonici, and as usual we will have a wide range of therapists and holistic practitioners for your enjoyment. Entrance as usual is just £3 and your money will be most gratefully recieved by this wonderful charity.
