Renowned physicist David Bohm, in his description of how the universe operates, suggests each subatomic particle of the cosmos is not separate from another and that the essence of one particle is found in all others. It’s important to note that alongside this idea of a universe of unity and oneness, the universe is also a vast storehouse of information which we can communicate with through intentionality. So, if we are talking about the law of abundance we cannot forget these principles—the very DNA of the universe means that our intentions, thoughts, ideas and perceptions are bound to everything.
Some years ago there was a misperception shared in the metaphysical world about the law of abundance. It was suggested that all you need to do is to “want, want, want”, and keep on wanting (car, relationship, lifestyle, etc) and it will manifest. There is a law of abundance written into the very fabric of the universe, but this law works at a deeper and more profound level than simply grasping. To access it, we need do more than wish and want.
How does this law work?
First we need to be aligned with the Divine spark at work in our souls enabling us to fulfil our purpose on earth. By Divine spark I’m not talking about carrying out a pre-planned robotic script in which we are puppeteered by a deity, like passive participants. It is like a set of propensities within us, urging us to find ways of enhancing our learning and development in a particular lifetime. Abundance and life purpose are not separate. It is Divine will that all should experience abundance and prosperity. It is the ego’s will that there should be fear and scarcity, separation and deprivation.
We need to form a relationship with the Divine Intelligence within us. We need listen to this guidance with our hearts and be open to the possibilities and opportunities it presents to us. Living in this guidance can only bring us joy because it is the basis of our passion, inspiration, skills, gifts and propensities! We need to develop and cultivate trust in this dimension of our being. Rabbi David Cooper in his book, ‘Invoking Angels’ talks about Divine will as ‘process’ rather than an external separate being. We are a part of this ‘process’ and co-create with this power.
Next we need to develop a different relationship with material artefacts of the universe, for example, money, possessions, etc. If we experience guilt about having things (for example, “I should not have this or that because there is a child starving in the third world…”) we will repel them and the corresponding opportunities to increase and grow. The child suffering does so because of systemic fear and scarcity principles from the egoic control in the world not because you have what you need. The ego minded economic thought system currently in existence grasps and exploits for its own ends. It has peaks and troughs, periods of boom followed by periods of bust and austerity. This transient or cyclic pattern is based on the belief that there

are limited resources. In the true universe of Divine Love, there is abundance for all. Abundance requires that we connect the universe of Graciousness and Plenty, with the material universe. The ‘God Force’ as Stuart Wilde describes it, is abundant! Goods are energy, and energy is not in lack in Bohm’s universe of interconnection.
Thirdly, we need to create a sacred space in our lives to magnetise the information and energy of the universe. The universe of subatomic particles is potential that needs to be actualized into solidity. Shamanic wisdom, the mystical Christian tradition, Buddhism, Kabbalah, and many other esoteric traditions can help us to create a sacred space in our lives, by giving us patterns we can utilise for this end (I will say more about this in my next post). If we use ‘abundance’ to take away from others, to covet what they have, and grasp from others’ lives, we will only bring lack into our own lives. Think about the legacy of Bernie Madoff, whose ego sadly overwhelmed his consciousness and resulted in his lifetime imprisonment. Greed never has a sustaining value. Even the wealthiest families in the world, if they grasp and exploit others to maintain their wealth, will live with misery flowing in the background of their lives.
Qualities needed to create abundance:
Gratefulness: we need to cultivate certain qualities within ourselves to keep the magnetising field of abundance in flow. One is to ensure we have a sense of gratitude to the universe. This has such power for transforming the psyche into a place where abundance can be sustained and held, and not squandered and lost. Boredom and ingratitude will cause us to seek for more than we need to fulfil our life’s purpose and lead to squandering and inappropriate risk taking (the Madoff Syndrome). Be satisfied with what you receive each time, and when you magnetise more, ensure it is linked to your gratitude and thankfulness.
Focus: if you have a sense of connection to your life’s mission you can be more focused in setting out your intention within your sacred space. What do I need to manifest my life’s mission? These things may be as ordinary as money, a home, transport, advice, and education; however, when we are just driven by want, and materialism, our intention is not congruent with the energy of the universe, and our true abundance will not manifest. Our abundance must add to the abundance of the world, in that it should increase our capacity for loving kindness, generosity and compassion
Trust: If we allow Divine guidance to carry us, then we need trust that those things that will enhance our mission and purpose will be made available. Again this is not about a divine puppet master pulling the strings, but about a close alignment with Wisdom within that will enable us to know the difference between true passion and egoic want. The latter isn’t going to make us happy; it only serves to distract us from our passion, which is our life purpose.
