Paranormal Experiences of a Lonely Little Girl

I have been having paranormal experiences ever since I was six years old. Although it wasn't until I was about twelve years old that I even considered the possibility that my strange experiences could have been on the paranormal range. I didn't believe in ghosts or the like until I began watching programs of investigations of haunted buildings etc. when I was a teenager.

My parents had always told me that ghosts weren't real and that everything that I was experiencing was concocted from my imagination. My father would always brush me off and my mother got so frightened by my experiences that she wouldn't let me speak of it. My friends were of no help either. Most acted just like my father and would make fun of me. The others would be too frightened to let me finish my story. I felt so alone. I have been dying to tell someone who'll believe me for many years.

It all started when I was about six years old when my family moved to a condo in Cypress. The experiences that I had started about six months after we'd moved in. The up stairs master bedroom from the very beginning and to this day has bothered me. I don't know what it is, but I have always felt a presence in that room. Every time that I enter it, especially at night, I feel very uneasy, like someone is telling me to get out of there. I have had similar feelings when I visit places that I have never been to before and don't know the history of. I am no psychic, and am not claiming to be one. But sometimes I can sense when there is something wrong with a place, especially when something bad happened in a certain area. I have no idea if anything bad ever happened in that room, all I know is the feeling of discomfort and dread when I enter it.

I have also always, even before moving here had terrible sleeping habits. It can take hours for me to fall asleep and even when I do fall asleep I am a very light sleeper. My room is the smallest room nearest the stairs and I can hear anyone who climbs the stairs. Also, from the position of my bed I can see anyone who's coming up the stairs through the hallway mirror. My parents also made me sleep with my door open so they could check on me without bothering me by opening the door.

I remember about six months after moving in I had pretty much gotten use to the natural sounds of the house. I was able to tell the difference between someone coming up the stairs and the natural creaking that the stairs would make. One night when everyone but myself was asleep I heard someone coming up the stairs. I remember that I thought it was my dad coming to check up on either myself or my older sister because the steps being taken sounded very heavy, too heavy to be my mother. So I looked in the mirror to see who it was that was coming as the footsteps got closer and closer. But when the person coming up the stairs got to the top step, I saw that there was no one there. I was so confused by this I walked into the hallway and looked down the stairs. I still saw no one. I tried to make myself believe that what I heard was a figment of my imagination and decided to go back to bed. Not five minutes after getting myself re-situated, I heard the same footsteps walk back down the stairs. I was more scared than I had been before in my life. I knew that I heard the steps, but there was no one physically there making them. What was worse is that that steps started again about fifteen minutes later in the same fashion. It happened over and over again for the next two or three hours.

These episodes happened four to five times a week. Sometimes instead of slowly walking up and down the stairs, I would hear whoever it was running as though there was a fire or something. It wasn't until about a year and a half later that I saw what might have been making these noises.

I was lying in bed waiting for the episodes to start as they usually did. But this time I saw more than I ever thought I would. I heard the footsteps coming but they didn't stop at the top of the stairs. I saw a man walk past my room into the bathroom. I had never seen this man before in my life. He seemed so real that I ran in the bathroom and turned on the lights just to see him again. But there was no one there.

I remember him as being tall and in his late fifties, early sixties. He had no hair and was wearing old fashioned clothes from the fifties I believe. He was wearing perfectly circular rimed glasses as well. I saw him very rarely after that. When I saw him I didn't think that he was an apparition. He seemed so real that I thought he was a real person. I thought of him as that, as an intruder into my home. But now that I think about it, it might seem like the other way around to him.

I also have seen another apparition of a man who has stood i my doorway. I remember I was in bed again and I happened to look out at my door and I saw him. He was very tall and very heavy set. He was wearing work clothes and I remember getting a horrible vibe off of him. Unlike the man I previously mentioned, he made me feel as though he wanted to hurt me. I can't explain it. He certainly would have been big enough to squash me to death. I don't even remember his face. But I got the same feeling from looking at him that I got from the master bedroom. Maybe he's the presence there. I don't know. It isn't until now that I have made any connection to the man in my doorway and the master bedroom. But his presences frightened me so bad that I covered my head with my blanket. When I pulled it back down he was gone.

I made no attempt as a child to contact any spirits, they just came to me. I have never played with a Ouija board, done any kind of channeling, or spoken to a medium. The intensity of my experiences have weakened over the years to where I mostly see things out of the corner of my eyes or hear faint whispering now and then. Sometimes I hear my name called, but that's about it. I don't think that my home is haunted, I just think that it is visited by the spirits. Every now and again they try to get my attention.

The last really significant experience that I had took place two years ago on April 23. I only remember the exact date because it took place two days after my 17th birthday. I was talking to my mother about the experiences we'd had on the Queen Mary the day before when I heard someone moan right next to my left ear. I was standing between my room and the one next to it with the back of my left side to my open room door. After hearing the noise I slowly moved away from my room and asked my mother if she'd heard anything. She said she hadn't and thought that I was trying to scare her. I tried to remain calm, but the moan which can better be described as someone who was gasping for breath, scared me so bad. It caught me so off guard because it happened when someone else was around and in the middle of the day. Everything that I had previously experienced took place in the middle of the night when it was dark, not when it was light out.

I still see things from time to time and hear things. They don't bother me as much anymore though. I've had to learn to live with them. It was so much harder when I was a child to comprehend especially that I had no one to share my experiences with. It was a rather lovely existence and a frightening existence to say the least. But I managed to deal with these things that are being thrown at me. To be honest, I like the fact that I can feel presences here and there, though not so much when they make me feel uncomfortable. I only hope that other children who have had to deal with such experiences have people they can tell, people who might be able to help them deal with it. It can be frightening when your young and alone like I was. I'm happy to finally be able to tell my experiences to an audience who might listen and give me some actual feedback as to what I have experienced over the years, not just tear me down or ask me to stop because they're afraid of the unknown.

Bless you, Ashley.
What a lonely experience for you. It sounds to me like you are just a natural Medium. Being a medium and psychic are different skills, most people are fairly developed with their psychic skills even if they are not aware of it. Few people choose to use their meduimship side and don’t realise they could develop if they wanted to. It sounds like because your mediumship skills have come naturally to you, you need to get some training either way. You can learn to block further contact with spirit or if you are happy to develop it then learn how to channel it properly and safely. If you can find an experienced medium willing to train you near to where you live then I would suggest you try that. If not then a spiritualist church or centre should be able to point you to someone who can. Alternatively if you live somewhere that does not have those facility then there are some very good books that tell you how to do this.
Good luck.
